Hello Friends, I hope you are doing fine and are having a good time on bitlanders. Today I have come up again with my new blog with the title of "Hollywood Movie Review - I, Tonya". Friends, this blog is about throwing light on the subject of "Women Empowerment" and tells the story of an athlete who works hard and paves her own way to power, fame, self-satisfaction and empowerment. As the name suggests, the story of the movie revolves around a famous American Figure Skater who was on top back in early 1990's when such sports were not very common in young generation. This movie is a Biographical film and it covers a lot of ups and downs in the life of Tonya Harding, her journey towards success and the hardships she went through in achieving the status she deserves. This movie was directed by Craig Gillespie and was produced by Tom Ackerley and Margot Robbie who also played the main character in the movie. The story of the movie was penned by Steven Rogers and it was produced under the umbrella of LuckyChap Entertainment, a Film Production Company run by Margot Robbie.

I, Tonya is a bleakly hilarious tale of absolute unrepentance. It’s based on the true story of US figure skater Tonya Harding: reviled as the blue-collar, white-trash, black-hearted villain who at the very least attempted to cover up her ex-husband Jeff’s grotesque assault on her rival skater Nancy Kerrigan. He’d hired a couple of chaotic goons in 1994 to whack Nancy in the knee with a baton.
Margot Robbie gives a fantastically uninhibited performance as Tonya, fighting her way to the top from humble beginnings, frizzy of hair, angry of demeanour, often bringing out a raptor grimace on the ice, denoting pain or gloating triumph. Robbie has to suppress her natural glamour and poise for this: she is perhaps more obvious casting in a film called I, Nancy. Getting her to play both women would have been interesting.

✔ Movie Plot And Review
The movie is actually a set of different interviews, events and appearances of different people who have remained around Tonya Harding since the beginning. Therefore, the movie starts with interviews of Tonya Harding, her colleagues and relatives etc to talk about Tonya's life. They all share their feelings and comments on the life events of Tonya Harding. Then the movie starts from the childhood of Tonya and it is shown that Tonya belonged to a poor family and she had passion to do something valuable in her life. She was encouraged by her mother to take figure skating classes as she showed interest in it. However, she was not initially welcomed there because of her poor family background. Later on, due to the hard work and enthusiasm of Tonya, she was able to make her mark in figure skating by and by. Her mother was a bit harsh on her and Tonya's father left the family when she was young, therefore, figure skating was the only thing which could give her some satisfaction and the sense of achievement in her life.

As the time went by, Tonya started to get settled down in her life as she was going good in figure skating and had also got companionship of a boyfriend with whom she felt a bit secured. Although his boyfriend, Jeff was also abusive and dominant towards her sometimes, but on the whole, Tonya was hopeful that their relationship would turn better with the passage of time. In figure skating, although she was giving her best performance, however, she thought judges were not very supportive as they wouldn't give the scores to her which she actually deserved for her performance. Nevertheless, Tonya did not lose hope and continued to perform better and better. In the meantime, she had gotten married with Jeff and this action was criticized by her mother. Tonya also changed her coach and it proved to be very helpful when she contested in a National event back in 1991 and came out as the first successful American woman to pull off a triple axel. As Jeff was becoming more and more abusive, Tonya decided to leave Jeff for his bad behavior. Furthermore, Jeff's unannounced friendship with Nancy Kerrigan (a competitor) was also a matter of concern for Tonya. These certain aspects played their part to deteriorate Tonya's performance in International events as well.

It so happened that Nancy Kerrigan was attacked by someone who injured her pretty badly, Nancy was attacked in order to stop her from participating in the figure skating events especially against Tonya. As a result, Jeff along with some other men were arrested by the Police for plotting the plan against Nancy. Tonya tried to pay full attention towards her game despite those problems but could not perform the way she had done in the past. In 1994 Winter Olympics, Tonya could not make her mark and even could not surpass Nancy Kerrigan in the event who secured 2nd position. The Police probed her after the Winter Olympics and because of Jeff, she was also found to be involved in the incident against Nancy and was sentenced to three years' probation which also ruined any future chances for her in figure skating. The movie ends as all the major characters including Tonya Harding are shown busy in their lives currently in different job roles, away from each other and bringing up their children in different locations in the USA.
