How to Add Chocolate to Your Natural Skin Care Routine

Many people believe that eating to much chocolate can lead to oily skin and acne breakouts. While this may or may not be true for you, chocolate does make a great addition to many home made beauty products. Chocolate has gained popularity in skin care because of the recent obsession with antioxidants and there ability to fight free radicals. Cocoa is very high in antioxidants and is the main ingredient in most chocolate. Dark chocolate contains the most amount of antioxidants because of its heightened cocoa content. Chocolate also contains cocoa butter a smooth, solid fat commonly used to soften dry skin.

Skin Softening Chocolate Mask

For softer skin try using this natural dry skin care mask once a week.

Ingredients:
5 Tablespoons of cocoa
4 Tablespoons of honey
2 Tablespoons of sour cream
3 Teaspoons of oatmeal powder

Directions:
Add all of the ingredients to a small bowl and mix until well combined. Using your fingertips apply the mask to your face and neck using gentle circular motions. Leave on for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing with warm water and towel drying.

Dark Chocolate Milk Mask

For an anti-aging skin care treat use the recipe below containing dark chocolate full of antioxidants.

Ingredients:
4 Tablespoons of dark chocolate powder
2 Teaspoons of milk

Directions:
In a small bowl add the milk to the dark chocolate powder and mix until you have a thick pudding. You may need to add a small amount of additional milk to get the right consistency. After mixing the ingredients together apply to your face and let it sit for 15 minutes. Wash of with warm water and gently pat dry with a towel.

Spiced Chocolate Exfoliating Scrub

The combination of chocolate, coffee, and cinnamon can create an invigorating natural dry skin body scrub that will be sure to spice up your morning shower.

Ingredients:
2 Tablets of Nestles Abuelita’s chocolate
2 Cups of finely ground coffee
4 Tablespoons of brown sugar
1 Teaspoon of vanilla
1 Tablespoon of cinnamon
½ Cup of honey

Directions:
In a medium bowl combine all of the dry ingredients and mix well. Add the vanilla and honey to the dry ingredients and mix until you have a thick paste. Apply the scrub to your body using a circular motion and rinse off in the shower.
