I guess most of you already know that I am an online seller. I am even trying to also incorporate my shop here. LOL! Since I got really overwhelmed from the VERY MANY orders that I am getting, I got inspired to write this blog. I have here six tips on how to become successful when you choose a career in online selling.

1. Treat your customers with RESPECT.

They say "customers are always right". Do you believe in that saying? Because for me, I don’t. Customers are not always right. They also make mistakes because they do not know the rules and sometimes, customers don’t know how things work in a company. I have learned that when I was working in the call center before. Customers are getting mad and trying to insist what they wanted but what they want is not correct. So, you won’t be able to give them what they want. But, even if you are getting annoyed and pissed off with the customer, you still need to treat them with RESPECT.

RESPECT others if you also want to be RESPECTED. It is a give and take relationship.

2. Build rapport with your customers.

As an online seller, I learned how to build rapport with the customers. When they will chat me and ask for inquiries, I let them feel that I am approachable and I will be very responsive to them. I treat them as my friend even if I don’t know them personally. Build connection with them. Because the moment you do, they will appreciate it and will be looking for it. :)

3. Be responsive to their needs.

I have a lot of experience like customers are asking me if a certain dress have a large size. Most of the dresses that I sell are free-size but they fit small – large frame. Some of the customers don’t like to have free size because they are scared it might not fit them. As an online seller, you need to be sensitive with the customer. When they are looking for a large size, and the certain dress they chose doesn’t have that size, give them other options. Give them other items that have large sizes. Who knows? They might also like one.

Talking about this makes me think about a scene in a restaurant. When a staff in the restaurant serves food to the customer, they would also ask if you need water or tea and stuff like that. You do extra mile for the customers. It is like doing more than what they expected you to do.

4. Learn to overcome reasons for them to cancel.

This one is kind of connected to what I said in number 3.  If the item that the customer wants to buy is not available, provide them other options.  Try to provide them two or three options. Try to overcome at least thrice and if the customer really doesn’t like any of the items you provided for alternatives, let it go.  Don’t push the customers to their limit. It will make them think that you are forcing them to buy from you. And I am sure you do not want to let them feel that way.

5. Be considerate to the costumers (not all the time though).

There are some customers who will place an order and, few hours after, they will decide to just cancel the order. As an online seller, that will be like a PANIC MODE for you. Especially if you already ordered the item. I had that happened to me before. But she told me that she won’t be able to get the item since she will be transferring to another boarding house and she will be needing a lot of money for the one-month advance and one-month deposit. I understand how that is, so I considered her. She thanked me for it and said that surely, she will be ordering from me next time when she already have the money. :)

Sometimes, you really just need to put yourself in your customers' shoes.

6. Be honest to the customers.

This is the most important thing right there. There are a lot of  online buyers who are getting pissed off with the sellers because what they see in the picture is different from the item they have received. I have experienced that myself too because I am also a customer.

Let us take this as an example. The one you see in the picture looks really nice and it seem to fit small size because the model itself is even small. That is why, I even bought 50 pieces of blouses from this supplier and, she told me, it will fit to small but when I received the items, they are mostly BIIIIG! Honestly, I got upset by that because she told me something but I got another thing. That is why I never ordered from her again.

To give real service, you must add something which cannot be measured by money and that is, HONESTY and INTEGRITY <3

I learned that we really need to be honest to the customer because, the moment they receive an item that is not the same as how you described it to be, they will be having a negative impression of you as a seller and might end up being like me. Not buying from you anymore.

Remember this: No matter what happens, be HONEST. Even if it means they won’t be buying from you. As long as you are honest, everything will go smoothly.

So, to all those who are interested to be online sellers out there, it is actually a very nice opportunity to earn extra money. Trust me. And I have given you some tips coming from an online seller itself. :) I hope you’ll get something from this blog.

You can also start an online selling platform in shopee.
