A hotpot prepared on Wednesday morning by nearly 500 chefs serving 3,000 diners in Ho Chi Minh City has been certified as the largest of its kind in Vietnam.

The hotpot, which is 0.4m high and 5m in diameter, was divided into three compartments for three different flavors: fruit, chicken, and Thai-style sour and spicy hotpot.

The stew boasted 3,000 liters of broth and consumed a whopping 1.3 tons of ingredients including meat, seafood, vegetables, and spices.

The cooking of the dish, which took place over 2.5 hours at Hoa Lu Stadium in District 1, was strictly monitored by city food safety officials.

Under the guidance of chef Pham Tuan Hai, who twice sat on the jury of the local version of MasterChef – a British cooking reality show – chefs from restaurants across the city cooked in front of a large mass of spectators.

The hotpot cooking, hosted by Unilever Food Solution, smashed the Vietnam Record Association’s current record of the biggest hotpot, which was set by Saigon Food Co. – a local food company – in 2012.

The Vietnam Record Association is an established agency which recognizes extraordinary events and exploits in the Southeast Asian country.
