Auroville (City of Dawn) is an experimental township in Viluppuram district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India near Puducherry in South India, whose stated purpose is to realize human unity in diversity.  It is a popular tourist destination, and has been described as a “New Age metropolis conceived as an alternative exercise in ecological and spiritual living.” This town was a vision of The Mother from the Sri Aurobindo Ashram at Pondicherry.

The Auroville Charter:
1. Auroville belongs to nobody in particular. Auroville belongs to humanity as a whole. But to live in Auroville one must be the willing servitor of the Divine Consciousness.
2. It will be the place of an unending education, of constant progress, and a youth that never ages.
3. It wants to be the bridge between the past and the future. Taking advantage of all discoveries from without and from within, Auroville will boldly spring towards realizations.
4. It will be a site of material and spiritual researches for a living embodiment of an actual Human Unity.

Auroville is meant to hasten the advent of the supramental reality upon earth. The help of all those who find that the world is not what it ought to be is welcome.
