-If you are ‘in someone’s good books’ you have their approval or favour. 
Eg: He stays back working overtime for no pay to get into the boss’s good books.

-You can also be in someone’s bad books.
Eg: He’s going to get into the boss’s bad books if he keeps coming in late.
