Imports bring down fuel prices in Kabul

KABUL (PAN): Prices of fuel edged down and other daily used commodities remained unchanged in the outgoing in Kabul city, retailers said on Thursday. One litre diesel of petrol sold for 53 ($1.17) afghanis, said a filling station owner in the Baraki neighbourhood of Kabul, Shokrullah. Last Thursday’s price of one litre of diesel was 60 afghanis, while the same amount of petrol accounted for 54 afghanis. Fuel price shot up in the landlocked country as a result of a two-month Iranian blockade of nearly 1,900 Afghan oil tankers. But the purchase of three million tonnes of fuel from Pakistan and other countries helped ease the situation. Prices of other daily-use commodities fluctuated during the outgoing week. However, the liquefied gas rate remained unchanged at 61 afghanis a kilogram, said a dealer in the Karta-i-Parwan locality, Zikrullah. The rate of per 560 kg of peeled oak stood at about 5,350 afghanis, unpeeled oak at 5,250 afghanis and cedar at 5,200 afghanis, firewood seller, Shamsul Haq, told Pajhwok Afghan News. The rate a 50-kg bag of Brazilian sugar increased from 2,120 afghanis to 2,080 afghanis. The price of a 50-kg bag of Pakistani rice slightly increased from 2,180 afghanis to 2,200 afghanis, said the head of Food Traders’ Union, Fazal Rahman. A 50-kg flour bag cost 980 afghanis, a five-litre ghee cane 320 afghanis, a kilo of African black tea 180 afghanis and the same amount of Indonesian green tea 150 afghanis. Abdul Baseer, a jeweller in the upscale Shahr-i-Naw locality, said gold prices stayed stable, as a gram of Arabian gold sold for 1,750 afghanis and the same amount of the Iranian variety for 1,450 afghanis. The buying rate of a US dollar was 45.40 afghanis and 1,000 Pakistani rupees 526 afghanis, moneychanger Ahmad Shah Salehi said. Last week’s exchange value of one dollar stood at 45.30 afghanis and 1,000 Pakistani rupees at 528 afghanis.but by passing the time the price of fuel in Afghanistan got increased.
