Though the temblor on Tuesday was comparatively weaker than that on April 25, it has inflicted more damage on Calcutta. It has caused cracks on two iconic structures of the city. A hairline crack that had appeared on a pillar of the Shahid Minar on April 25 is reported to have widened significantly following Tuesday's jolt.  Moreover, a second crack has been noticed on its outer surface. The Writers' Buildings which is one of iconic structures of the city has also suffered two cracks; one on a pillar on the top floor of Block B and another on a wall of the same block.
