Police arrested a local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami and his son while they were holding a ‘clandestine meeting’ at BRAC More in Palashbari upazila on Friday night.
The arrestees were identified as former upazila chairman and Palashbari upazila Jamaat unit ameer Maulana Nazrul Islam Lebu and his son Jamaat leader Advocate Golam Azam.
Majibur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Palashbari Police Station, said on secret information, a team of police launched a raid on a house in the area and arrested the duo while they were holding a secret
meeting there at about 11:30 pm.
However, their other associates fled the scene sensing the presence of the law enforcers.
The arrestees were wanted in several cases including for arson attack and subversive activities, the OC added.
A case was filed in this connection.
