He is not a typical chef; he is doing more than just cooking.

I am a big fan of cooking shows, my love for cooking made me watch more of these shows instead of those television series. My brother would always tease me of why I always watch those show if I cannot even cook them since some ingredients may not be available. And my other older brother would say that it will just make me hungry while watching how the chef would cook and then eat if afterwards.

With that being said, I have three channels where I watch shows about cooking and more. I watch TLC, Lifestyle Network and Star World(now Fox Channel). In TLC, I got to watch a lot of cooking shows by foreign celebrity chefs; in Lifestyle Network, I got to watch local chefs life Claude Tayag, whom I wanted to write next; and in Fox Channel, my all-time favorite reality show for home cooks are fighting for to be the next Master Chef is being shown.

Among those cooking shows, there are few celebrity chefs that I look up to and one is Jamie Oliver, a world-renowned chef, whose cooking doesn’t end in his own kitchen but influencing more on fighting for obesity, wanting kids to eat healthily.  I have wanted to write something about him and now, for a start, let me tell you who Jamie Oliver is.

Who is Jamie Oliver?

Jamie Oliver is born as James Trevor Oliver on May 27, 1975. He is raised in the village of Clavering. His parents, Trevor and Sally Oliver, ran a pub/restaurant, The Cricketers, where he practised cooking in the kitchen with his parents. He has two siblings and was educated at Newport Free Grammar School.

He left school at the age of sixteen with two GCSE qualifications in Art and Geology and went on to attend Westminster Technical College now Westminster Kingsway College.  He then earned a City & Guilds National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in home economics.

His typically English cuisine has garnered him numerous television shows and restaurants. Born and raised in the village of Clavering, Essex, he was educated in London before taking his first culinary engagement at Antonio Carluccio's Neal Street restaurant as a pastry chef.

Aside from that, I love his way of cooking and his rustic presentation or plating. The “Jamie’s 15-minute meal” has been my fave since I wanted to get myself some food in a very fast way possible.

On the personal note, Jamie Oliver married Juliette Norton on 2000. They have five children: Poppy Honey Rosie, Daisy Boo Pamela, Petal Blossom Rainbow , Buddy Bear Maurice and River Rocket Blue Dallas and their family is currently living in Clavering, Essex.

Oliver has severe dyslexia, and read his first novel (Catching Fire) in 2013, at the age of 38.

What I like about him too is his charity works. Jamie Oliver conceived and established the Fifteen charity restaurant, where he trained disadvantaged young people to work in the hospitality industry.

His  Ministry of Food campaign began in 2008 with the Channel 4 series of the same name and the opening of the first Ministry of Food Centre in Rotherham. More MoF Centres have since opened in Bradford, Leeds, Newcastle/North-East, Stratford (now known as Food Academy) and Alnwick. Ministry of Food Centres and trucks have opened in Australia in Ipswich, near Brisbane and Geelong, Melbourne. State governments in Australia provided valuable funding for these Centres.

When I watched one of his TV shows, “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution”, it opened my eyes how I have been eating and how kids are being exposed to those kinds of foods and obesity is a BIG issue.

This TV show showed the world about his crusade to change school meals which I have seen hesitation on both the school and the kids. It was a painful reality that no matter how much other people care for our health, our own selves is our greatest enemy.

Since I have been following him on Instagram and Twitter, I have learned and been updated with his revolution with sugar tax. And I have been happy how did it finally approved and happened. And same here in the Philippines, the TRAIN had been great with putting tax on sugary beverages.

Whoever watched “Jamie and Jimmy’s Food Fight Club” has an idea what I am considering him as a food fighter. Jamie is with Jimmy Doherty, a famer and tv presenter in this show. Both taught me about not looking on how the vegetable looks like, there is no “ugly vegetable”.

Their way of thinking with regards to those “ugly vegetables” being not sold in the supermarket, and some being wasted and farmers incurring losses, I am into it. They are the same vegetables, same taste and nutrients but their looks made them not being in the market and ended up being wasted and it.

Aside for those vegetables, local products that have been not making in the market but have the potential to make it big with their quality.

Personal Note.

I have got a lot of reasons why I am into Jamie Oliver, aside from his accent and his eyes, despite the controversy with his fellow chef and another favorite, Gordon Ramsay, I see more of what he is up to. He is not like those chefs, whose plating matters, rustic presentation can be beautiful too.

His crusade for healthy eating is a big thing for me too, coming from a family of diabetics; it made me look up to him more. And encouraging me that home-cooked meals can be as fast like those fast food meals too, not compromising our health.

There are so many things to like about this chef, isn't it?
