Kirk Cameron thinks the atheists and pagans have stolen Christmas, and he's gonna do something about it. In the current Christmas tradition, this means he has created a product to sell us during the holidays. In this case, it's his movie, Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas.
Decorate the truth all you want, but Christmas was built on a pagan holiday. So was Easter, for that matter. Christians didn't do anything special with Halloween, but it's pagan in its origins too. It doesn't mean these days are less special to Christians. Christmas and Easter, in their religious sense, celebrate a love of Jesus.
But, let's not suggest that pagans or atheists are ruining Christmas, because that's a joke. You want to blame something blame the corporations for making the holiday about themselves. This is the time of year in which they claim that they finally make a profit, which is where the term "Black Friday" comes from.
If you want to save a holiday, start with Thanksgiving. People are already camping in line in the new tradition of saving money the day after Thanksgiving, and these sales start on Thanksgiving. That means people wait in line or work at these stores, rather than spending time with their families on Thanksgiving.
The whole idea of getting the exact gift people want has been a Christmas tradition going back long before the corporations took over the holiday season. They saw how people were acting and exploited things for their own selfish gains.
I don't think it's a bad thing to remind people about family and the Christian message of Christmas, but the corporations are going to continue to exploit the season for profits. That won't change until the people want it to change.
