Kjeragfossen, Norway

Posted on at

Has a total height of 2345 feet 715 meters, with the tallest single drop of 2345 feet 715 meters and it is located in Norway, Rogaland, Lysefjorden, Kjerag. This waterfall drains a series of small ponds and tarns on top of the famous Kjerag, or Kiragg, a 1000 meter tall mountain which drops straight off into the Lysefjord. Because the falls have such a small drainage area – which doesn’t appear to possess a lot of soil – the falls run off very quickly and dry out by the summer. When the falls do flow, the small stream sprays over 700 meters straight down to a large alluvial fan, before entering the ocean. The small volume makes the falls susceptable to being blown away in the wind, and appears to be difficult to photograph in a favorable way unless the stream is running high. While the height is significant in both the case of the uninterupted drop and as a whole, the bottom line is this isn’t a significant waterfall.
