Kyoto is also popular for several other reasons as well. One of them is the presence of the Kiyomizu-dera temple that is located on the western region of the city. Although this temple is believed to be about 1,000 years old, the structure as it stands today was constructed again in the year 1633.

The path leading to the "Teapot Lane", which what the entrance to the temple is called has several shops selling handicrafts and other goodies. The atmosphere is quite festive in this area and one can only sense the religious serenity of the place after reaching the hilltop and entering the temple premises.

The temple covers a huge area with many structures, most of which fall under the category of "Important Cultural Property".

Kyoto is one place where you can get a taste of exotic Japanese cuisines. Ranging from the delicacies of Kyoto like Kaiseki-ryori, Shojin-ryori and Obanzai to other world famous dishes of Japan such as sushi, tempura, soba, and ramen; the city offers you a wide variety of scrumptious recipes. Those with a sweet tooth would also enjoy their stay in Kyoto as the place is well known for its production of special Japanese sweets.
