by Marc Rickenbach With well over 100 videos shot and published, La Blogothèque’s Take-Away Shows are hardly a well kept secret anymore. They have become a standard stop for bands and artists of all styles and status that tour through the French capital. Arcade Fire, Animal Collective and Phoenix have all walked the streets of Paris in filmmaker Vincent Moon’s guerilla-style videos. The Take-Away Shows (Les Concerts à emporter) first saw the day of light in April of 2006. Chryde, the founder and editor of music blog La Blogothèque, wanted to find a way to combine the music he was writing about with another medium: film. On the other side was independent filmmaker Vincent Moon, who was looking to do the same but in the other direction. The result was a concept based on minimalist guerilla-style filmmaking that focused on the experience of live music rather than a slickly produced music video. There are no stages, no multiple takes, or tons of money spent. The bands simply walk the streets of Paris (which play a part just as important) while a small skeleton crew follows them as they perform. The unique and organic clips that resulted gained a reputation and fans on both sides of the Atlantic. Michael Stipe soon commissioned Moon to shoot a series of videos for the R.E.M. single, Supernatural Superserious (link: www.supernaturalsuperserious.com). Also, a trip to NYC at the request of one Tom Jones lead to this special Take-Away Show. They travel around looking for music they love, and every week a new clip of another band you may know well or may never have heard of pops up. As of late, they’ve begun a new series titled Soirée de Poche (“pocket evenings”) secret concerts hidden away in corners of the city where bands come to hang out, play some songs and shoot some footage. Most recently California natives The Morning Benders (link: www.blogotheque.net/The-Morning-Benders-Virgins) played one of these Pocket Parties, and to the enjoyment of many, ran threw a list of 34 songs! It is one of the purest examples out there of what can happen when music and film come together. C’est désormais un passage obligé pour les groupes et artistes en tous genres qui font escale dans la capitale. Arcade Fire, Animal Collective et Phoenix ont tous déambulé dans les rues parisiennes sous l’oeil de la petite caméra de Vincent Moon. Les Concerts à emporter ont vu le jour en avril 2006. Chryde, fondateur et rédacteur du blog musical La Blogothèque, cherchait à allier la musique sur laquelle il écrivait avec un autre support : le film. De son côté, le réalisateur indépendant Vincent Moon voulait faire la même chose, mais en sens inverse. Le résultat : un concept basé sur une manière de filmer minimaliste dans un style amateur, plutôt qu’un clip bien léché. Il n’y a pas de scène, pas de prise multiple, pas de budget exorbitant. Les groupes, suivis par une petite équipe, jouent en marchant dans les rues de Paris (qui jouent un rôle aussi important qu’eux). Les clips uniques et spontanés qui en résultent se sont fait une réputation et de nombreux fans des deux côtés de l’Atlantique. Michael Stipe a rapidement passé commande à Moon d’une série de clips pour le single de R.E.M., Supernatural Superserious (lien: www.supernaturalsuperserious.com). Un voyage à New-York est aussi prévu, à la demande de Tom Jones pour une édition spéciale des Concerts à emporter. Ils voyagent à la recherche de musique qu’ils aiment, et toutes les semaines ils sortent un nouveau clip d’un groupe dont le nom vous est familier ou complètement inconnu. Une nouvelle série intitulée « Soirée de poche » vient de commencer, il s’agit de concerts intimistes cachés dans des recoins de Paris où les groupes viennent se détendre, jouer de la musique et tourner quelques prises. Récemment, le groupe Californien The Morning Benders (lien : www.blogotheque.net/The-Morning-Benders-Virgins) a tenté l’expérience, et a chanté pas moins de 34 chansons, pour le plus grand bonheur du public.
