Disputes and Ambiguity

Many disputes, whether about beliefs or about attitudes, are genuine. However, some disputes are merely verbal, arising from linguistic misunderstanding. The term used by disputing parties may have more than one meaning – i.e. they may be ambiguous The ambiguities may be not recognized by disputing parties, which causes trouble

Disputes fall into three categories;

1)Obviously genuine disputes;

If Gul says Karachi is to West of Peshawar and Khan says no, its to the South. This is a genuine dispute, which can be settle by a good map and compass

2) Verbal Disputes

 Disputes in which the apparent conflict is not genuine and can be resolved by coming in agreement about how some word or phrase is to be understood.

- Gul says Karachi is in opposite direction to North of Peshawar. Khan says no, its to the South.

3) Apparently verbal or simple but really genuine dispute

-Two data specialist argue 1.Manual and computer system should be maintained in organization 2.Only computer database is enough, because computer is quick access and cheap

BUT

When the system collapse?

Take this

Gul: Don’t ask your wife about it. You should to use your own judgment

Khan: I will use my own judgment, and in my judgment I will consult my wife.
