The Left and the Congress who were always at daggers drawn in the history of West Bengal politics had made a grand alliance to fight the ruling TMC in the recently concluded Assembly elections of the state. But the irony of fate is that the Left-Congress alliance could cobble up only 71 seats ,Congress in 40 and Left in 31, the worst ever performance of the Left in all times against the 211 captured by the ruling TMC. Thus the whole credit goes to the TMC Supremo as well as the former Chief Minister of the state, Mamata Banerjee who fought a single handed battle amid all odds against the grand alliance.
