I personally learned that on the road to whatever success or levels thereof you might want for yourself, your patience will be tested. This is because all things don't necessarily pave way when you want to go through.

You meet obstacles and challenges, and suffer setbacks. All of this is there and should not be ignored. Success will come if you patiently work at it. Just because someone said you won't make it, it doesn't mean you won't. So what if you spent a year going in the wrong direction?

All of that is supposed to be water under the bridge. You are supposed to work your way through but maintain your patience throughout. Don't lose patience when things go wrong or when you seem to be lost. Just find yourself again and do things right this time around.
