Literacy in Pakistan

The blog I’m going to write is about illiteracy in Pakistan. I’ll tell you that what are literacy and illiteracy rates in Pakistan? What are the causes of illiteracy, and how we can get rid of this evil?

Pakistan is an under-developed country. Why has Pakistan failed to progress even after sixty-six years of his creation? Illiteracy is the root cause of our problems. Most of Pakistani people do not show their any desire to learn and get education. Pakistan has lessened the pace of development but illiteracy is keeping country backward.

Common people of Pakistan are not aware of the developments the world is making because most Pakistani people live in villages and they are leading their lives as their forefathers did.

Literacy rate in Pakistan:

Literacy rate in Pakistan is very less. In Pakistan, 78% children take admission in primary schools and only 57% complete their education till metric and 30-35% do M.A and M.Sc.

Yet literacy rate in Pakistan is increasing every year but still it is too less than developed countries.

  • In 1951 AD:

In 1951 literacy rate of men was 19.2% and that of women was 12.2%, so the total literacy rate was 16.4%.

  • In 1961 AD:

Similarly in 1961 the literacy rate of men was 26.9% and that of women was 8.2%, so the total rate was 16.3%.

  • In 1972 AD:

In 1972 the literacy rate of men was 30.2% and that of women was 11.6%, so the total literacy rate was 21.7%.

  • In 1981 AD:

In 1981 the literacy rate of men was 35.1% and that of women was 16%, so the total literacy rate was 26.2%.

  • In 1998 AD:

In 1998 the literacy rate of men was 54.8% and that of women was 32%, so the total literacy rate was 43.9%.

  • In 2004 AD:

In 2004 the literacy rate of men was 66.25% and that of women was 43.7%, so the total literacy rate was 54%.

  • In 2009 AD:

In 2009 the literacy rate of men was 69% and that of women was 45%, so the total literacy rate was 57%.

  • In 2013 AD:

In 2013 the literacy rate of men was approximately 71% and that of women was 47%, so the total literacy rate was 59%.

We have seen that literacy rate in Pakistan is increasing but to be a developed country its literacy rate should be above the 95%.

How we can get rid of this evil?

We can get rid of this evil by opening schools and colleges in villages, because it is the time to get education and educate our children and especially women.

Pakistan is basically agricultural country but our most of the farmers are ignorant and as a result we are producing less than what we thought to produce our yield. So, our farmers should be agriculturists.

Being brief, the situation is very alarming. We should include the habits of reading, writing and learn computer education.

I hope the whole Pakistani nation will pay his duty to increase the literacy rate in Pakistan.

Thanks.
