LIVE | Sohail takes five as India post 300

Cricket excitement reached fever pitch today as traditional rivals Pakistan and India meet in a World Cup blockbuster touted as the most watched encounter in the history of the sport.

The refurbished Adelaide Oval resembled a sea of blue and green — the respective colours of India and Pakistan — as fans began packing the sold-out stands two hours ahead of the start of the day-night game

Former cricketer, PTI Chairman Imran Khan on ARY said Pakistan managed to restrict India to 300 thanks to bowling attack.

"Pakistan’s specialist bowlers have saved Pakistan today," he said.

He added that Pakistan needs to stay strong with its opening batsmen in the second innings. "Best batsmen should be sent first and try not to let wickets fall. If batsmen stand their ground, then a big total can be chased."

"The pressure is on Pakistan... India right now has the advantage. But Pakistan has a fighting chance."

"If Pakistan wants to win this match, he should not play beyond number four. I know he likes to play five but at that point it is a salvage position. It is better to prevent a crisis than to save the team during a crisis."

"Misbah has good technique and experience... him and Younis should play at three and four."

India have made 300 for seven from their 50 overs after electing to bat in the World Cup Pool B match against Pakistan at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

Virat Kohli (107) and Shikhar Dhawan (73) shared a second-wicket stand of 129 before Suresh Raina hit 74 off 56 balls.

Sohail Khan starred for Pakistan with five for 55.

Pakistan face a target of just over six runs an over to record their first win over arch-rivals India in the World Cup following five straight defeats.
