I posted a pic on instagram last week of some loose, soft curls and received a few requests for a tutorial. So, I filmed one!

These waves were inspired by Anh Co Tran. And, truthfully, they are a little bit too curly to be an exact dupe. By the end of the day, after filming this tutorial, my hair was much closer to the super soft, barely curled waves.

Before we jump right into it, your tools and your products are essential for getting the right look.

I am using a GHD Curve 1.25 inch curling iron. It is hot. Super hot. And my hair, which curls easily anyway, curled super quickly with it. I love that it takes nearly half the time to curl my hair now with this hot iron.

I always prefer tools with temperature settings, but I have to say that I’ve really enjoyed this curling iron. If you have resistant hair, or struggle with keeping a curl in it, this is definitely an iron to look into. I wouldn’t go any smaller than the 1.25 barrel though–otherwise I think it will curl too tightly and you’ll lose the “modern” look to soft, casual waves.

I mention this in the video, but I blew my hair dry with my Rusk Speed Freak and a vent brush. Then, I pulled it all up into a ponytail on top of my head, secured it with a fabric elastic, and went to sleep. That’s a great way to encourage lift at your roots, and save time in the morning.

As far as texturizing products go, it may take a few tries to get it right. I don’t think you can go wrong with Amika Un.Done Texture Spray. It’s light enough to layer, and forgiving enough that it won’t weigh your hair down with a waxy residue. I’m working on a more thorough post about texturizers, so keep your eyes peeled for that!
