So I was on a job a few weeks ago where I met a charming elderly man following us around with a medi-kit.
He kept himself to himself and I often walked past his van. His seat would be kicked back, his eyes closed and there would be a very faint sound of the radio playing .
He had the most amazing twirly moustache I think I have ever seen and I remember thinking to myself...."I bet he's an awesome Grandad.."
Whenever we spoke, he gave me a million and one in-depth medical facts that flew right over my head but I felt entranced by his rolling words and his gentle voice.
He spoke of his old camera one afternoon. A Super8 he grew up with...
"Do you want it?"
"Of course!! I would absolutely love it!"
I spoke with enthusiasm but I knew deep down this was just talk.
So the shoot ended, it was going to be my last TV job as I was aiming for a change and everyone went their separate ways, including the lovely, mysterious owner of the twirly moustache.
Christmas came and I headed back home to spend it with my parents! One night, I noticed I had a voicemail on my phone.
"Hi Amy. There's a Super8 camera and projector at the office for you, a man dropped it off"
I couldn't believe it!!
So now I'm the very proud owner of a fully working Eumig Zoom Super 8 and Prinz Magnon LV Super8 Projector.
My only experience with working closely to film is my short Extra Time I know absolutely nothing about such equipment otherwise but I can't wait to start figuring it out!
Here's a big thank-you to the mysterious man with the twirly moustache....
