The FC Barcelona manager was thrilled with the result and his players' attitude, adding that "as they were losing, City had no option but to go out and attack in the second half"
Luis Enrique sounded extremely positive after the 2-1 win at Manchester City on Tuesday, and had every right to feel that way. It was a result he would have happily settled for before the match and one he felt his players thoroughly deserved. The following is a collection of statements made by the Barça manager during his post-match press conference:
Barça’s great game
“I would have settled for this result. It’s an away win, and a thoroughly deserved one”.
“We had a splendid first half and created a host of chances for ourselves”.
“We always had a man free, we combined, we broke clearly through on several occasions and we also defended really well”.
“It wasn’t our best first half of the season,. We have played some great first halves in other matches too”.
Man City reaction
“They were trailing, so it was only normal for them to come out and attack. They created pressure and caused us a lot of problems”.
“The whole team played spectacularly, all of them served their roles. I am very satisfied with my players’ attitude.”
Missed penalty
“The only people that miss penalties are the ones that dare to take them. Leo Messi takes ours. But even if we’d won 3-1, the tie would not have been decided”.
“Nothing has changed regarding our plans for the return leg. We want to present a good image of ourselves by going out and winning that match too”.
