We all have come across this name. The Magnificent Mary Kom an Indian Boxer and five time World Amateur Boxing Champion. We all have heard about her success but do we know about the struggle she has gone through.
Her parents worked in the Jhum fields Manipur. She didn’t pass her standard ninth exam and didn’t reappear, so she quit and gave her exam from Churachandpur College. She always had her interest in athletics and it was Mr. Dingko Singh who inspired her to become a boxer. In spite of many challenges that came on her way, she succeeded and won a silver medal in 2008 Asian World’s Boxing Championship in India followed by a fourth successive gold medal at the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championship in China. She won Championship in Asian Women Boxing Championship in Kazakhstan in the year 2010, and her fifth consecutive gold at the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championship in Barbados. She had very few people in her life that inspired her dream but she was so focused, she didn’t let anything to stop her.
She married to Mr. K Onler Kom, whom she met on her way from New Delhi to Punjab for the National Games. They dated for four years and got married in 2005 and blessed with twin sons. Even then she never stopped she won several medals. She managed to be the only Indian woman who got qualified for the boxing event in the Olympic Games of 2012 held at London. She got the third position in it. She proudly won the first position in the Asian Women's Championships held at Ulan Bator, Mongolia.
