This one requires a bit of leg work the payouts can't be beat. All you'll need is an Android smartphone and a Coinbase account (free bitcoin wallet here
Basically WiFi Metropolis is a smartphone app that automatically connects users to nearby public WiFi hotspots. However the developers need to add a lot of hotspots to the system in order for it to really be useful, so they are willing to pay users in bitcoin for adding hotspots to their network.
First you'll need to install the WiFi Metropolis app here. Create an account using the email address you used for Coinbase. Once you're in the app, hit the menu button in the top left and turn on "Explorer Mode". Hit the icon to add a new hotspot. Once you've added the hotspot, it will show up as a grey icon on the map. Click the bar at the bottom that shows the hotspot name, and then click "Verify".
The app awards 2 points for adding a hotspot and 10 points for verifying it. If the verification partially fails, it awards 4 points instead of 10. You can exchange points for bitcoin at the following rates:
- 50 points = $1.50 (in BTC)
- 275 points = $10.00
- 500 points = $20.00
- 750 points = $35.00
- 1000 points = $50.00
So if you save up to 1000 points, each point is worth 5 cents. Therefore adding and verifying a hotspot is worth 60 cents, and the entire process takes under 30 seconds. To cash out, go to your profile and hit "Get Bitcoins". They payout automatically via Coinbase, so your bitcoin is instantly available in your wallet.
The real trick is adding as many hotspots as possible. I live in a college town that basically hadn't been mapped out at all, so yesterday I biked around to a bunch of nearby apartment complexes and added every open network I could find. If you're in an area where Comcast is widely used, I'm pretty sure every Xfinity router out there broadcasts an open hotspot called "xfinitywifi". Probably 90% of the networks I added yesterday were these. I'd also recommend going to areas with lots of shops and restaurants, as many of them now offer free WiFi.
Obviously your earnings potential will vary based on how many unmapped networks are near you, but I was able to get to 1000 points in about an hour and a half. I think my pace would be easily achievable in any moderately dense commercial or residential area.
