Mangalia Stud - Romania

Posted on at

Mangalia Stud is a place filled with tradition, being set up in 1928, having as main objective to preserve, as well as possible, the morpho-physiological special features of the Arab horse. When founded, Mangaliastud hosted horses brought from JegaliaCislau and Radauti. Between 1936 and 1941, new pedigree “horse lines” were imported from Poland:El-Sbaa and Nedjari.

Mangalia Stud is one of the largest in South-Eastern Europe and is populated only with Arabian pedigree horses, mother-mares, breeding youth, stallions for public horsing, sport and recreation that, well taken care of, can reach the age of 30. The age record holder from Mangalia Stud was Nedjari, the stallion of King Michael I of Romania, which died at 34 yrs old, in 1946.

The horses on the nearby beach, between Saturn and Venus, where being trained for several hours, offer a rare sight, for both  local and tourists.
