The legalization of marijuana is now one of the biggest topics going around int the United States of America. Placing marijuana under schedule 1 to begin with was a mistake because schedule 1 is used to restrict the substances with the highest potentials for abuse and the lowest potentials for medical use. Marijuana not only has one of the lowest potentials of abuse of any drug, but it also has very high medical value. Marijuana has been shown to relax muscles as well as the mind, reduce the chances for an individual to contract cancer, help with insomnia, treat drug addictions, as well as many other medical uses. Many people say that use of marijuana has helped them with ADHD problems and treat their insomnia better than sleep aids alone. Marijuana has been shown to leave about a third more tar in the user's lungs than tobacco, but the thing research doesn't show is that the tar left in the user's lungs will actually dissolve into the membrane and not leave any long term effects at all. Tobacco leaves a residual tar that will be in the user's lungs forever unless a procedure is done to them. As well as many medical effects, marijuana is a very safe recreational drug. Alcohol has been shown to do devastating damage to the liver, stomach, throat, and other permeable membranes of a user's body. While alcohol is fully legal, it is one of the most damaging and impairing drugs in existence. Marijuana causes exponentially less damage, the only real risk is the possibility of burning oneself while smoking. Not a single case of cancer nor a death has been reported in correlation with marijuana use alone. Marijuana is often used alongside tobacco, which causes all the bodily harm seen in marijuana users. If marijuana were to take the place of tobacco in stores and dispensaries, not only would it benefit the general health of the population, but many less people would go to jail on marijuana charges, and enormous tax revenue would be collected. It's shown that tobacco generates upwards of 35 billion dollars worth of taxes every year, marijuana has potential to generate even more money in taxes as well as promote general health. Colorado alone generates over 100 million dollars in marijuana taxes annually, if this was the case with all 50 states, the government would be able to put much more money into important things such as healthcare and military, instead of jails for criminal charges on marijuana. with upwards of an additional 5 billion dollars in taxes annually, our country's well being would be improved dramatically. Marijuana has also been shown to promote prosociality. This means that users of marijuana are more peaceful. This could potentially reduce crime rates and improve racial and sexual problems in households and neighborhoods. Along with all these benefits, it is now shown that marijuana holds the popularity of votes, a census revealed that at least 52% of America favors legalizing marijuana. This is only a partial survey, it is believed that over 60% of the population is in favor of legalizing marijuana, and shouldn't the people decide what goes? I mean, it is our constitutional right, am I right? Anyways, it is evident that the federal government only has a certain amount of time before it is inevitable that marijuana is legalized. If we band together and start demanding it from our government, us citizens will be granted what we really want: the freedom to stuff what we want in our pipes!
Marijuana should be legal!
