I have shot roughly around a third of ‘Living With Someone’ so far. Been to a few different locations which all went great. Hopefully I will have shot everything within the next two weeks.
The second location I filmed in was a field on a hot summer day, which in England is something we don’t get much of. It was literally only me and the actress. I would have liked someone there to help with bounce boards, but I didn’t have that option, so everything you see is natural light.
We shot around mid day so the sun was as high in the sky as it could be, I would of preferred it to be a little later but I didn’t want to risk the sun holding out.
The footage has a beautiful haze effect to it, which I really like. I feel like it adds a vintage effect to it. I shot 48fps with the plan to slow it down to 25fps and show the sequence in slow motion. This is because the scene is a past memory, which the actress does a V/O for.
The second location was a forest. It was again an incredible day and a beautiful location. This time I held out till roughly around 3pm so the sun was a little lower in the sky which aloud me to get a couple of great lens flair effects.
Again it was just the actress and I so no opportunity to bounce light, so what you see is what we got.
I got the haze effect on a couple of shots but not quite as much as before. It seems to happen mostly with the Canon 50mm f1.2, which is my favorite lens. At some point I would love to get hold of the Zeiss 35mm that I used on ‘Falling’ and produced some great looking stuff.
I shot this in 48fps because again this is a memory sequence, not that we see remember in slow motion but I just wanted a style to differentiate between the documentary and non documentary without having silly reenactment sequences.
I shot the next-door neighbor interview, which was done around 6pm so the sun was very low in the sky. I got a nice even spread of light over the subject but then some sun light beams across the background, which worked well.
So next week I will have even more shot so check back for updates and stay tuned for the premier on Film Annex within a month
