Maserati is a name that is legendary for beauty, grace and power. The Maserati Khamsin made its debut at the 1972 Turin Motor Show. Designed by Marcello Gandini, this grand tourer was named after the desert storm ‘Khamsin’. It was the last model produced by the short lived Citroen-Maserati merger. Power steering, clutches and brakes were fitted to suit this 2+2 Grand Tourer. 450 units were produced of which 150 were shipped to the U.S. after making some cosmetic changes like a front grill and rubber fenders for the front and rear. There were no drawbacks to its performance considering the engine, the naturally aspirated V8 used widely to date, for renowned brands like Jaguar, BMW, Mercedes and Formula 1 cars. Emerson Fittipaldi, the World Champion Race genius found the Khamsin to be excellent on the road and enjoyed driving it. However the poor sales were attributed to the looks of the car which had a glass rear that became the subject of controversy. Though priced at $17,000 the present tag for this rare model crosses $50,000. It was found in Florida and sold at Bonhams Concours Greenwich d’elegance Motorcar and Automobilia sale in 2010 for $52,650. Road and Track's statement for Maserati Khamsin is - ' A beautiful, comfortable luxury GT that delivers everything that it promises'. But for a genuine, exotic, Italian 170 mph car, the recognition it gets is very dull and insipid
