Matterhorn

The "Matterhorn" is one of the world's most famous mountains. It rises 4478 meters high, but is not the highest mountain in Switzerland. The first men who managed to climb to the top of this mountain were a group of seven mountaineers led by Edward Whymper from Great Britain on July 14, 1865. Four of the seven men died on their way back. The four steep faces, rising above the surrounding glaciers, face the four compass points. It is one of the highest peaks in the Alps. The Matterhorn was one of the last great Alpine peaks to be climbed.

The Matterhorn has become an iconic emblem of the Swiss Alps and the Alps in general. This has attracted a large number of visitors and climbers, since the 19th century, from when the time the railways were built. The most popular route to climb the mountain is the via the northeast Hornli ridge. Every summer a large number of mountaineers climb this mountain. This mountain has a pyramidal shape. The faces of this mountain are steep and only some patches of snow and ice cling to them. Since it is located on a height the weather, condition rapidly keeps changing.
