While waiting for spring to return, Paris does not stop its vibrant cultural life. During the month of May there are hundreds of interesting and exciting events. When there are so many choices it's easy to get lost, that's why we decided to highlight some of the best ones and make it easier for you...

Tim Burton Exhibition: For those of you who got distracted and have not noticed it yet, we will remind you about this great exhibition, which has been taking place since the 7th od March, 2012. Don't worry, you still have time! The exhibition ends on the 6th of August and can be visited at La cinematheque français de Paris. After being at the MoMa in New York, Tim Burton has chosen Paris to be the stage of his debut to the European public. Beside being the eccentric filmmaker we all know him to be, Tim Burton is also a great illustrator and photographer. Don't miss the chance to enjoy the originality of his drawings, storyboards, filmclips, and costumes from his movies. Without a doubt thus is a great experience that you will not want to miss!!

Le cinema Fantastique français: La cinematheque français also offers great cycles of film screenings. One of the many themes is an incredible trip through the national history of the supernatural and fantasy by directors, such as Méliès, Jean- Pierre Mocky, and Jean Cocteau. Don’t miss this opportunity from the 18th of April to the 18th of May at la cinemateque français:51, rue Bercy, 75012, Paris.

Night of Museums: On the 19th of May, 2012 from 18:00 (6:00 pm) to midnight. This is a nationwide event whose aim is to open up the museum experience for the younger public. These events allow a unique experience by visiting museums during the night. Paris' contribution to such an event is particularly rich. Discover by night the Musée d'Art Moderne, Musèe bourdelle, Victor Hugo's house, the Petite Palais, and the countless other cultural attractions. Each venue separetly runs a variety of events in conjunction and entrance to all permanent collections is free!

Pochette Surprise, “Lucky dip” Sessions: If you have kids you will want to check out this extremely interesting educational initiative of the Balzac Cinema. Its aim is to introduce kids to short and silent films that have marked the history of cinema. Children will have the chance to get to know artists like Charlie Chaplin, Laurel and Hardy, Buster Keaton, and many more. This event will be one Sunday a month ending the 3rd of June. don't miss the last two sessions of the season for May and June at the Cinema Le Balzac: 1,rue Balzac, 75008, Paris.

Open Days at the Belleville Artists' Studios: From May 11th to May 14th , more than 250 painters, sculptors, photographers, ceramists, etc. open their atelier to the public for a 4 day event. What an occasion to discover one of the most culturally vibrant neighborhoods of Paris and get a taste of the current artistic trends!

International Festival of Very Short Films: From May 4th to May 13th, this festival will be screening a range of very short films. Every kind of genre is accepted -from fictions to documentaries to animations- however, there is only ONE rule: no more than 3 minutes running time!

 

Saint-Germain-des-Prés Jazz Festival: Every spring since for the last 12 years from the 16th of May to the 30th, Saint-Germain-des-Pres, one of the most charming neighborhoods in Paris, becomes the stage of dozens of talented jazz performers from all around the world. A rich program of concerts and events are scheduled during these two weeks, and some of them are even free!
