Midtown Landmark Closing

Posted on at

Smith's Bar, a landmark watering hole at 44th Street and 8th Avenue, closed its doors last week due to lease issues, according to the blog Jeremiahs Vanishing New York. Workers at the 60 year-old establishment deferred all questions to "Bobby" who was huddled at a table with several cohorts.

According to Bouncer Chronicles, "Bobby" had no comment on the closing of the bar. Charlie Roach, 83, who helped out at the bar for 30 years in exchange for food, outlasted a series of owners. Hotel-Motel Trades Council owns the building but did not respond to questions about the bars closing.
