Surgeons told Danielle Davis her newlywed husband Matt would never wake up - but she kept on fighting - and so did he.
When doctors wanted to switch off Matt Davis' life support machine the only thing stopping them was his loyal wife.
The 22-year-old married Danielle seven months before he was involved in a serious motorcycle crash that put him in a coma.
His devastated new bride, 23, from Georgia, US, sat by her husband's bedside each day and would talk to Matt while holding his hand.
Just nine days after the accident, that happened in 2010, doctors sat Danielle down and gave her the worst news possible.
He had just a 10 per cent chance of waking up.
She said: “Doctors suggested we remove him from life support and let him go, he would never wake up.

"They said if it was them, they'd pull the plug. That's what they'd want their family to do.”
But devoted Danielle refused.
"I wanted to give him more time to see if he improved.
"We didn't really have a chance to start our life together, I wasn't going to give up."

Matt remained in a coma for three months and showed little signs of recovery.
So doctors agreed to send him home, to be cared for by Danielle and her mother round-the-clock.
The kind-hearted pair dressed and changed him each day, fed him through a tube, bathed him.
They also gave him over 20 different daily medications.
Then several weeks later, a miracle occurred when Danielle was trying to get Matt to move his arm.

She put his hat in his hand and asked him to put it on his head - then he opened his mouth and said: "I'm trying."
Danielle said: "It was the greatest thing I've ever heard!"
When Matt started speaking, it soon became clear that he had no memory of three years prior to the accident.

He didn't know who Danielle was, but she added: "It didn't take him long after that."
"We fought to get him back in rehab and there he worked with physical, speech and occupational therapists learning the basics.
"He spent 3 months in rehab and upon his release he could: talk, sing, laugh, make jokes, eat and drink on his own, use the bathroom with minimal assistance, wheel his wheelchair, walk with assistance with a walker."

Three years later and Matt's condition has improved. The pair now play scrabble and visit yoga classes together and he has even started driving a stick shift car.
But Danielle is facing huge therapy bills because she claims his medical insurance will no longer pay for therapy.
A GoFundMe page has been set up, where you can donate money to fund Matt's rehabilitation.
Danielle is hoping he will soon be able to walk unaided and the pair can pick up exactly where they left off in 2010.
Matt meanwhile, has some advice for other husbands.
He told WTOC: "Dude, take the trash out. Because there might be a day when you can’t.”
