MMA Bill secures a victory through Connecticut House!

Connecticut lawmakers are moving forward with a proposal to lift the state’s ban on mixed martial arts (MMA). If passed, Connecticut would legalize and regulate the popular sport of MMA. The sport allows a variety of fighting disciplines like wrestling, Muay Thai, boxing and karate to compete in an octagon-style cage.

The bill was passed this week by the Connecticut State House of Representatives by a 117 to 26 vote. If the bill receives enough votes to pass through the State Senate it would leave New York as the only state in the country that outlaws the sport. Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) CEO Lorenzo Fertitta is hoping the bill will find its way to the Governor’s desk to be put to a vote in the State Senate.

Fertitta wanted to thank the House members who supported the bill. “It’s the right thing to do for thousands of Connecticut MMA and UFC fans.”
