More Israeli Settlements in East Jerusalem, by Ambassador mo

Posted on at

“The Secretary-General is deeply disappointed by the recent approval by the Government of Israel to build more than 900 housing units in East Jerusalem. He reiterates that settlement activity in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, is contrary to international law, and he is concerned by provocative actions on the ground. The Secretary-General supports ongoing efforts to find a way to resume peace talks, and underlines that creating an environment that is conducive to progress is vital.” From Statement of UN SG Ban Ki-moon. From UN News Centre: "It was Israel's refusal last September to extend a 10-month freeze on settlement activity in the occupied Palestinian territory that prompted the Palestinians to withdraw from direct talks with the Israelis. Despite repeated calls by the international community to resume negotiations, the peace process has been in a deadlock since then."
