Part two of a series about the most talented pairings of the filmmakers today. On deck, Brad Pitt and David Fincher.
The players: David Fincher and Brad Pitt
The works: Se7en, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Remember when Brad Pitt was just "the good looking guy from Thelma and Louise"? David Fincher, known for tackling darker material, snapped him up and made him into one of the most talented, if underrated, leading men of his generation. Whether he's playing the enigmatic Tyler Durden, the head-strong Detective Mills or the understated Benjamin Button, Fincher is usually behind the scenes in some of Pitt's best performances.
There's no debate that the two aren't extremely talented even without working with each other though. Zodiac is Fincher at his most fastidious and Pitt wowed critics everywhere as the legendary Jesse James. As good as the two can be separately, their next film together will always be an anticipated one. If financing comes through, Pitt and Fincher could reunite soon for a remake of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
Best film: Yes, Fight Club. The cult film went from being very poorly received and slowly gained beloved status over the course of ten plus years. A black comedy at its core, Fight Club tackled all of the drudgery and apathy in the 90s with an irreverence that could only be done with Brad Pitt gnawing on everything in sight. Tyler Durden is an icon and Fight Club is a cultural touchstone.
