Mustafizur broke Zimbabwean Brian Vitori’s record of ten wickets in his first two ODIs when he took 6 for 43 in the second ODI against India in Mirpur on Sunday. By taking 5 for 50 in his first ODI, he became only the second Bangladesh bowler to take a five-for on debut, after Taskin Ahmed.
And now the young sensation Mustafizur stands on the brink of yet some more unique records that can take him to a new high.
The record of taking 5 wickets or more in three consecutive one-day international matches belongs to Pakistani fast bowler, Waqar Younis. He picked up the wickets against New Zealand and West Indies in November, 1990.
If Mustafizur gets a five-for in the third ODI against India, his record will probably be looked differently considering his age and greenness. Waqar was 24 matches old when he achieved this rare feat. Mustafizur may accomplish it in his third ODI match!
On the other hand, if his off-cutter helps him claim a minimum of two wickets in the third match on Wednesday, Mustafizur can level the record of 13 wickets haul in a three-match ODI series, made by Australian pacer Ryan Harris against Pakistan in 2010. Scalping 3 or more will help him make the record rewritten.
The match will begin at 3pm, weather permitting, and GTV, Star Sports 1 and 3 will telecast the game live. An 11th win on the trot at home would definitely be the perfect way for the Tigers to sign-off in front of the loud, colourful and unabashedly partisan Mirpur crowd.
And if they can really manage to secure a victory triumph over the neighboring rivals from this match as well, that will leave them just one short of the record held jointly by Pakistan (2000-03), West Indies (1986-89) and Australia (2003-04) of winning consecutive matches at home.
