Eleven people were awarded death sentence by Nadia district court in West Bengal on Thursday for killing a woman in a bid to grab government land about 14 months ago. The land was being used by 55 families for cultivation for two decades under an unofficial Left-era understanding that aimed to distribute plots among those displaced during the Bangladesh Liberation War. This is the first incident that so many people had been sentenced to death in a single case in Bengal.
