Today, November 7th, is National Bittersweet Chocolate with Almonds Day.
Now that's a pretty specific day. Not just chocolate, but bittersweet chocolate, and not just bittersweet chocolate, but it has to have almonds in it too.
Bittersweet chocolate is also known as dark chocolate. It has less sugar and therefore a higher percentage of cocoa, often 70% plus. Due to it having less sugar, it is more bitter - hence the name - and is less popular with those that like the sweetness of milk chocolate. Also due to having less sugar, it is healthier to eat. All chocolate contains useful nutrients, but the added sugar of sweeter chocolates provides a health detriment too.
Almonds are a type of culinary nut that is often used in sweet dishes and cooking.
