Today, October 20th, is National Brandied Fruit Day.
Brandied fruit is not fruit brandy. The latter is a type of alcoholic drink based on fruit. The former is fruit in alcohol.
The fruit is preserved in the brandy. This is a way of preserving it without storing it in tins or making it into preserves.
The fruit has the skin peeled off, when ripe, and then sometimes sliced, but also sometimes stored whole. The fruit is then placed in the brandy with sugar. The fruit is then stored in a dark place, and it will cure within a couple of months.
