Today, September 4th, is National Macadamia Nut Day.
Macadamia nuts come from the macadamia tree, a genus of trees native to Australia. The trees are named after the Scot John Macadam by his colleague Ferdinand von Mueller.
Macadamia nuts are comparatively high in fat and low in protein when viewed next to other edible nuts.
The nuts are often quite expensive, and are used in a wide variety of dishes, especially sweet ones, although they are also eaten by themselves, roasted, plain, salted or simply plain.
