A massive fire broke out late on Monday at 1:45 AM at the National Museum of Natural History in the heart of Delhi, which is a national heritage. As many as 40 fire engines worked through the night to put out the blaze. But meanwhile, many rare specimens and taxidermied animals were destroyed, thus causing a tremendous loss to the nation. Six fire officials were rushed to hospital as they fell ill after inhaling excessive smoke. The fire service officials allege that fire safety mechanism of the National Museum of Natural History in FICCI building was not functioning which could have controlled the fire at the earliest. It can be expected that a thorough probe should be undertaken by the government of India and the guilty officials should be punished.
