Noodles are made from unleavened dough (or flour paste) that is cut into a variety of shapes.
Commonly formed into long and thin strips, they can also be cut into other shapes, such as helixes and strings. One alternative type is the egg noodle, which are usually made into strings of different thicknesses. Noodles can vary in type, especially depending on their origin.
The oldest known noodles found date back to about 4,000 years ago in China.
Noodles can be used in a variety of dishes, including soups and stir-fries, and can be used as the basis of an inexpensive meal. They are often purchased dried, and then cooked in boiling water.
