Today, December 25th, is National Pumpkin Pie Day.

Well, that's quite a bizarre food day to have on Christmas Day. This is doesn't seem like a typical foodstuff to associate with Christmas, especially given the pumpkins frequent association with Halloween. However, pumpkin pies are a traditional sweet dessert in Canada and the US during autumn and winter, and especially with Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Pumpkin pie is actually a pumpkin custard dish that's baked in a pie shell. Pre-made pumpkin pie filling, which has spices already added to it, can be bought, if you don't want to make the filling yourself.
