Today, November 11th, is National Sundae Day.

The sundae is an ice cream dessert. It is accepted that they have been named after either the English word Sunday or the German for the same.

Sundaes consist of one or more scoops of ice cream that are topped with sweet sauce or syrup, and often other toppings as well such as whipped cream, fruit and wafers.

There are a wide variety of different sundae types, and some include heated sauces.

Whilst many sundaes are served in tall glasses, some, such as the banana split (also a sundae) are not.
