NEELAAM GHAR BY TARIQ AZIZ - MY FAVOURITE SHOW ON TV

Neelaam Ghar (literally means "Auction House" in English) is the show that brings up past memories (while this very same show is still on air). Neelaam Ghar started in 1975 and is longest ever show on Pakistan Television with over 40 years. It is probably the longest in the world too as they were going to register this show in Guinness World Record.

 

Neelaam Ghar is hosted by one of the renowned faces on PTV, Tariq Aziz, who also happens to be the first person to announce for PTV in 1964 when PTV started its transmission in Pakistan. Tariq Aziz is well-educated, learned, poet, an ex-politician as well. He also became member of Pakistan's National Assembly in 1992 elections which he won from Lahore, capital of Punjab province in Pakistan.

Neelaam Ghar is basically a quiz show where the audience can win prizes by answering to questions (the questions are not too heavy). This programme gets a lot of viewership, commercials and ads as well as cash and other items from different companies for the audiences. A company like Hitachi had been the major sponsor for the show while the national and international companies also sponsored this programme for many years and still doing.

I remember the cold nights when the nights were longer and I would enjoy this show watching on TV every Saturday. This programme was a must-see for people who were applying for CSS (an exam for higher posts in Pakistan) because the amount of general knowledge you could get from this programme, was so much that a book could not contain it. Many of people of my age enjoyed a lot of information from this programme and we utilize it even today.
