Nepal: "Do not send us leftovers"

Recently, Nepal has quietly suggested India not send old clothes to aid the victims in distress in the recent earthquake. At the same time, Nepal also stressed its people do not want to get "leftovers".



According to the latest figures, at least 7,000 people were killed and countless people are now living in "homeless" after the strong earthquake of 7.9 on the Richter scale flattened vast areas of Nepal on the last day 25/4. In recent days, many government organizations, NGOs have joined hands in distress relief. 


 


Among the first countries to actively carry out the mission of victim relief Nepal, India is the leading country when 171 tons of aid goods via railway to Nepal. 


 



Many relief supplies was sent to Nepal to help the victims affected by the horrific earthquake.


 


However, recently, the first ship carrying relief supplies to the station Birgunj, Nepal officials had discovered some sacks papyrus contains a lot of old clothes that the people and Government of India put into. Mr. B Mohan, chief executive of train Himalayan Terminals Private Limited, the joint venture between India - Nepal, said, "We had to remove the old furniture shipments in our ports".


 


Before the work mentioned above, Indian officials said that once discovered old clothes for the first day received aid, Nepalese authorities not only refuse shipment but also reminds India that the people of Nepal do not received "leftovers".


 


Meanwhile, Mr. Anju Ranjan, Indian consulate in Birgunj has confirmed the incident and said: "I have turned over information to the Ministry of Home Affairs of India". 


 


"We are checking the whole consignment clothing before transferring them to Nepal," an employee of the Indian Administrative Agency said.
