A computer network is the thing which links two or more then two computers so they can communicate to each other and share resources such as printer or any other device. Network is divided in to three main types which will be discussed below one by one.
1) Local Area Network or simply LAN:
LAN is simple network which connects computer and other devices within very limited physical area, such as the internet connection within office, within the any building, or the campus of any college or university. this kind of network is only limited to the boundary of that building or office. beyond that boundary LAN is not found. LAN network requires ordinary telephone cable, coaxial cable or even wireless (wi-fi modem) radio system for connecting micro computers.
2) Metropolitan Area Network or simply WAN:
A set of communication which is covering the whole city or which builds the connection between computers within the city, is called WAN. It uses high-speed fiber optics cable. fiber optics is the cable made of small glass pieces. in these cables the data travels with speed of light. so we can say that this is the fast network. This network is larger then LAN. because it coves a wide network.
for example:
The sharing of data between the branches of bank and the main branch which is inside the city is the good example WAN network.
3) Wide Area Network or simply WAN:
Telecommunication networks covering a large a geographic area are called wide are networks. These are also called long distance networks. It uses long distance transmission media including telecommunication networks to link computer separated by few miles or even thousands of miles. simply we can say WAN builds connection of computer between two or more cities.
for example:
The exchange of data between the main branch which is in another city and the other branches of bank is good example of WAN.
