The Ultimate Fighting Championship filed suit this week against New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman over a law forbidding MMA in New York State. According to Bouncer Chronicles the law is so vague that no reasonable person could know what is permitted and what is not. Both karate and kickboxing are currently both allowed now in New York State.
The UFC previously sued New York in 2011 to try to invalidate the state's ban on the sport. US District Judge Kimba Wood threw out that case on technical grounds but stated that MMA has changed considerably since the ban was first enacted. Professional MMA is allowed in every state in this country except New York. UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey met in March with Governor Andrew Cuomo and state legislators to lobby for the legalization of the sport.
