I managed to get a role on Eira Wyn Jones's final year film, No Friend's But The Mountain's which is a semi observational style non-fiction film about the Kurdish people who own the Naan Bakery on College Road, Stoke on Trent named 'Zagros' as a Camera Assistant which was just a great experience and opportunity for me.
My job role on this shoot was Camera Assistant and I helped out with changing the lenses and taping down the marking's for pulling focus when performing tracking shots.
It was a really interesting learning curve for me as I gained experience with use on a RED Epic. Although I can't say I particularly liked this camera due to it's lack of portability and how overly complicated it made things it was still and exciting experience nonetheless.
I also felt inspired by a particular shot in which the DOP and I sat in the boot of a car and captured the cyclist riding slowly down the road. I really liked the smoothness of the track and it looked awesome so I plan to apply this guerrilla technique in my shoot for an upcoming film based around fixed cycling.
It was a different kind of film than what I'd usually expect to see from Eira but I think the idea is really solid and the visuals we've managed to capture look very striking.
