“Nothing special” a short film from Helena Brooks, truly speaking there was nothing so special about this movie yet I started clapping and laughing at the end of it. A very different short film, as different is the story so different is its presentation. The director has chosen to keep a sense of comedy throughout the film, be it through the music or the visual representation of it.
In real life, most of the parents think that their son/daughter is special , same with me too but not like re-incarnation of Jesus or something like that as we see in the film. This film shows how sometimes making you feel special sometimes, cuts you out from the basic need of being normal, to be no different from others, about being in the crowd and not standing out of it.
Here in this film, we see the same thing, Billy becomes the reluctant subject of worship when his delusional mother decides he is Jesus reincarnate. Now the question is how Billy reacts to it, does he accepts the fact that his mother tries to convey to everyone or does he chooses a different path.

Talking about casting, I feel the casting was great, especially the mother, the main character Billy also did a wonderful job.
Background score was very good, it really gave the film the exact warmth that it required, but at places, I felt that the background score was overriding the dialogues but overall an awesome job.
Overall great screenplay and is very well shot. One thing which I felt that the need of, was to show time lapse, the scene were we see Billy is leaving his house, there we see Billy as a grown up guy but just in the previous scene we see him as a small kid, if there was a time lapse in between, maybe it would have looked better.
“Nothing special” was officially selected in the Cannes Film Festival 2005.
Overall the film was fun to watch, I really enjoyed watching it. Hope to see more from the director.
